Smooth Smoothie Success
- Instead of ice cubes, try frozen fruit instead for an extra boost of nutrients.
- Did you know that you can freeze overripe bananas to use in smoothies. Peel and cut up bananas into 1-inch pieces prior to freezing. To freeze fresh berries, spread a single layer on a jellyroll pan, freeze the fruit, and store in resealable freezer bags.
- For extra protein, add yogurt, almond milk, flax seeds, silken tofu, wheat germ, or protein powder to your smoothie for extra nutrition.
- Try not to add additional sugar. Why waste the calories? Try it first without the added sweetener. You really might not need it, depending upon the natural sweetness of the fruit that you’ve used. Great natural sweeteners include honey, agave or coconut nectar. (You could even add just a bit of Shakeology!)
- Rinse out your blender right after you use it. The fruit juices stick to the side so when you do get to it for washing, it will take you longer.
FINALLY………………………
- ANY SMOOTHIE CAN BE MADE GREEN. Just add just a handful of spinach or kale and blend smooth. You don’t want to be chewing your smoothie. I promise you won’t taste them, as they take on the flavor of the fruit. (Add too much and of course you’ll taste them.) Other options are swiss chard as well as avocado. If you need a better blender, I HIGHLY recommend the Vitamix. Get an amazing nutritional boost in a very simple and easy to digest meal!
