About Me
I am a very busy mom of 3 kids (DS is 6, DD is 4, and DD is 4). I do not profess to know all the there is to know about feeding my family, but I do my very best and gather as much knowledge as I can.
Up until January 2011, we were a family of omnivores. We were eating meat (beef, pork, poultry, seafood) more nights than not. In February 2011, I watched a video on YouTube entitled “The Best Speech You’ll Ever Hear” and became vegetarian overnight. The more I read, the more I felt that I needed to change the way my family eats. I can’t say it’s a diet, as it is most definitely a lifestyle change.
Within 6 months, I converted my family into pescatarians. I can’t say that there aren’t nights where my kids resist eating the food on the table. They are kids afterall. But all of them are now adventurous enough to try something new. 2 of my kids love salad and often ask for it. All of my kids, while they all have differing tastes, will drink green smoothies and fresh juices. When we go out to eat or if we are at a party, my family can choose what they want to eat, but they will 95% of the time choose a non-meat dish.
What do we eat? LOTS of fruits and vegetables with the occasional fish/shrimp/other seafood and occasional egg/cheese. When I say occasional, I mean MAYBE once every 2 weeks or less.
This is where I believe I can make a difference.
Mom/Dad, you know that you want to change the way you eat, or maybe you already have. But you don’t know how to change the eating habits of the rest of your family. I can teach you what has worked for me, tips and tricks, if you will. I am still definitely fine-tuning my family’s eating, but we have made significant headway in a short period of time.
This is how I rationalized all of this to my once meat-loving DH:
“I am investing in the future health of my family”. And now, you can too. Ask me how!
